Today I received my cheer shoes! They are Nike brand and they look fabulous. They are white with patent leather details that make the shoe really pop. The insole has cheerleaders on it, which I like! I got my competition schedule, and I’ll get my uniform next month. I am most excited to perform in Dallas, because I’ve been there before and it is SO nice. Dallas has nice hotels and it will feel like I’m performing in front of the whole country. The update on school is that I got back some grades. I’m doing well, but Law class is still incredibly boring because all the teacher teaches is LAW. I know it’s a law class, but I would rather learn about what is illegal instead. That would really help people to understand laws and why you should obey them.
Back to cheerleading…My first competition starts at the end of fall at a charter school. I’m expecting the team to win the trophy. I wanted to be on a more skilled team like the Juniors or the Seniors. Right now I’m on the spirit squad, which is a team for children and teens with special needs. I feel a little proud to be on this team because this is my first year cheering. It also feels confusing because I may or may not be able to tumble like the other team. So, the confusing part is that I would like to be on a different team, but because of my tumbling, I realize that this team is the right one for me…even if I don’t always want to be on it. In order to join the Juniors or Seniors, I have to take a year or two with the Spirit team and then be able to do intermediate tumbling skills like back handsprings or stunting skills. Some of the girls on Spirit do back handsprings. The hardest part for me, with the back handspring is the jumping part. I can complete the back handspring when someone spots me, but I need more power to do it by myself. I can do a front handspring by going from a handstand to a bridge, but I am still learning how to do a back handspring. I can do cartwheels, splits, and jumps. I don’t jump too high, but I can use a trampoline to practice. I want to cheer at Stoneman Douglas High School next year. My friend and I just watched a few routines by the squads that won the National Championship for high school cheerleading. They are insane! I keep wondering how they get so good. They must practice all the time. What kind of squad would you like to be on? A squad with a lot of pressure or one where you just cheer for fun? I would want to cheer for fun. So, I guess I shouldn’t get upset about not having my back handspring because I am having so much fun with Cheer Florida. Fun is the best reason for cheering, and so I guess I will be happy with the team that doesn’t have a lot of pressure. Today, I designed my own cheer uniform. It has a straight skirt, exposed torso, colors of red, white, and blue for Cheer Florida, and a long sleeved top.
